"The new 45 ton Panzer IV Ausf.B Panther II, armed with a high velocity 88mm L/71 gun, was a formidable opponent..."
-The Foresight War pg. 266

Pzkpfw IV (Panther) 40-45 ton battle tank armed with 88mm L/56 gun; Ausf.B with 88mm L/71 and additional armor.
-The Foresight War pg. 315

This is an alternate version of the famous Panther tank of World War II. Originally weighing less and carrying a high velocity 75mm gun, this alternate version appears in the novel The Foresight War.

Other than the main gun,I wonder what the difference is between this version and the real Panther. I have some unbuilt Panther models in my stash. I would love to build an early version and paint it Panzer grey. I started reading the book yesterday.

The book doesn't mention much other than the main gun. Maybe some armor thickness differences but otherwise they don't say much. I believe the Germans and Allies develop APDS rounds earlier than OTL so those would also be equipped on the Panther.

Good luck with your model.

Very cool. Love WWII german tanks and no doubt a Panther (or your Panzer IV) with the gun of the Tiger II would be a nasty enemy. If WWII had lasted more years, it's likely it would have existed.

I wonder what would have its big brother. Maybe a 127mm gun as that mounted on the supertank prototype Maus?

The Maus had a 128mm gun- note the one-millimeter difference- but if the OTL Jagdtiger is any indication, the weapon is TOO DAMN HEAVY to mount on anything smaller than a Maus, which was a waste of resources, anyways.

Panther was the best tank of WWII. Btw that was pzkfw V panther. Great work

Its probably the best German tank, but not the best tank of the war. That falls to the T-34. If your wondering why its called a Pzkfw IV as this is an alternate history version carrying an 88mm gun and coming after a historically different Panzer III.

Got this one in World of Tanks. It is a very good tank, defiantly gives the others a run for the money.

If all the problems had been worked out the Panther could have been one of the greatest tanks of WWII. Its still a pretty awesome vehicle though, I might check out World of Tanks in the future. Thanks for the comment!

PaintFan proceeds to take plans for the British Centurion tank back in time in response!

Glad you consider my Panther worthy of alternate history time travel!
