The World of Red Alert 1 by PaintFan08 The World of Red Alert 1 by PaintFan08
Alright now for a totally ASB map! (Alien Space Bats for those who don't know the lingo) I give you my version of the Red Alert Universe prior to the outbreak of war in the first game. The maps given in the game are inaccurate since they use modern day Europe. This one is based on 1930s-40s world.

For those of you that don't know, Red Alert is a game series made first by Westwood Studios then EA. The first game starts off with Albert Eisenstein traveling back in time and eliminating Hitler. He hopes that this creates a better world without World War II. It horribly backfires, and creates a militant Soviet Union which causes World War II instead.

This map works along the same idea, Hitler and the Nazis don't rise to power in Germany. As a result the moderate Wiemar government or something similar works out. A new European Alliance is formed to deal with the pressures of the Great Depression and then the threat posed by the Soviet Union. Eastern Europe leary of a direct alliance with the French, Germans, and British are only associated. They do not have full membership. The British and French Empires are intact, but beginning to show signs of strain in India, the Middle East and Indo-China (Vietnam).

The Soviet Union under Stalin has conquered the Baltic republics and Finland. He also invaded Mongolia at one point to keep the Japanese in check. I see most of this occurring during the Depression while the US and Allied powers are occupied with their own problems. The NKVD sponsors communist rebels in Eastern Europe and the Colonial Empires.

Japan embarks on its war of conquest per OTL. However the strength of the Soviet Union, and the lack of another major supporter (Nazi Germany) confines them. Prehasp in this TL the government is more moderate. With more of their military freed up they control China's coastline. China itself is a weak and powerless nation blocked by India, Russia, and Japan. They are also being pressured by Mao who receives the support of the USSR.

The United States had stayed isolated. In order to get out of the Depression more work programs and re-armament efforts are launched from 40-45 (when I feel the US enters the war). They are the last to join the alternate WWII. Even though the public wants to stay out of Europe, President Roosevelt then Truman work to keep the US involved.

SMALL EDIT: I learned that Sakhalin Island was split between the Japanese and Soviet Union prior to WWII so this has been corrected.

Red Alert 2 rather implied a Pacific War happened even without Hitler and Nazi Germany to kickstart World War II, what with the wreck of the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbour visible in one or two of the Red Alert 2 missions.

I think you have missed something, the u.s. japan war, the reason I suggest this is because in RA2 in the allied campaign there is an Iowa Jima monument in D.C., this happens despite there being no pearl harbor as carville mocks the planned soviet surprise attack on pearl harbor

Yeah I know about that. I changed a lot of things up to make things flow and combine the ideas behind all three Red Alert games into one universe with no time travel hijinks. So in this case there is no U.S. Japanese war till the early 1990s.

Probably, when I made the map I hadn't given it much thought. If I ever do a second version I'll most likely change it, thanks for the comments!

What about the German empire.

WWI occurs as history says. Germany gives in, and the Empire is lost. However the TL skews here with the Allies being a bit less harsh. Germany eventually develops into a working country minus the Nazis and is allowed to rearm. They become part of the European Alliance and will play a major role in the alternate World War II launched by the Soviet Union.

Hmm... wouldn't Austria and Germany be reunited with the blessing of the European Alliance? When I lost the very first mission, they then showed the spread of the Soviet Union across Europe, indicating Austria and the Czech Republic are both part of Germany. Though I am not sure why the Czech Republic would be though since Hitler never came to power. By the way, the first level loss was deliberate... I decided to use the force fire feature to turn the rescue team into a firing squad. You ever figure out how to use INI files? I got a special INI mod which adds Counterstrike and Aftermath units to the original missions.

Have never really modded RA1 or 2 that much so can't help you there. I left Austria and Germany separate as part of showing the differences in the TL, but I agree that a peaceful reuniting of Germany/Austria probably could happen. Glad you like the map.

Yeah, I was actually thinking sometime down the road writing a story based off the movie Patton with George C Scott. General Patton's main enemy is Martial Zhukov. The two allied commanders competing with Patton for better glory is Montgomery and Rommel.

Hold on, you've got Britian as a member of the European Alliance. If Britian has its empire, it wouldn't join the EA, and if it did, would that make the empire part of the EA?

Britain is itself a member but not really the Empire. Each of the major colonial powers (Britain, France, and Italy) would have their empires sort of as separate entities. Now when war breaks out in RA I'd imagine Britain calling upon troops from the Empire to fight in Europe and other theaters just like in the OTL WWII.

That's what happens when you mess with history. Ironic how two villains needed to come to power in order to keep each other in check so the free world would survive.

It's an interesting thought exercise. If Wiemar was somehow able to hold on, I believe they'd eventually shake off most of the Versailles restrictions restoring Germany as a land power in Europe. Historically Stalin was actually quite against spreading the revolution in the 1930s. However after the Soviet State becomes more stable who knows what happens.

Thanks for the comments!

Is it possible Einstein might have left something else behind to explain why the European Alliance seemed decades ahead in regards to technology?

Don't know. The simple explanation is the game designers wanted those weapons in the game regardless of answering how they got there LOL.

In my timeline weapons would be much closer to OTL than the game. Advanced weapons would be ones that could appear in a few years (jets like the F-86 and MiG-15, assault rifles, guided missiles, etc).

Thanks for the comments!

I always liked playing Red Alert series. After I recently figured out the INI. rules since standard got boring, I would re-equip the cruisers and missile subs with nukes. Heck, just to see if it could be done, in RA2, I basically created a nuclear sniper.

Cool...I never had the skills for that. Nuclear tipped missiles for the cruisers wouldn't be all that unrealistic. The Soviets routinely carried nuclear tipped SSMs aboard their ships and submarines.

Although nuclear sniper seems to be a bit of overkill IMO, LOL.

Yeah, just build a helicopter and a sniper and take it from there. Excellent for base defense -- just don't have them too close to your base. In fact no matter what, never have one in your base -- hint the Iron Curtain. SSMs are pretty cool. I make sure both sides have them since the INI also lets me use Counterstrike units in the original missions.

In 1939 Poland was attacked by Germany and Soviet Union

Well if you HAD READ THE DESCRIPTION, you'd see that this is AN ALTERNATE HISTORY! In Red Alert the PC game the whole premise was that a time traveling Einstein eliminated Hitler. Thus the Nazis never rise to power in Germany, thus no invasion of Poland by them. The unexpected affect of that however is a more aggressive Soviet Union, who launches an alternate a bloodier Second World War.

Yes in history the Third Reich invaded on September 1, 1939. In my alternate history the Soviet Union invades Poland in the mid 1940s.

I don't recall how it goes in the game but I imagine that the Soviets would want to control both Sweden and Norway along with Europe. Maybe a wartime map is in order.

Thanks for the feedback!

I think Brazil would join the European Alliance against Soviet Union. In the II World War, in our real world, Brazil joined the war by american pressure, but our president in 40-45, Getulio Vargas, was very anti-communist.
