ZTZ-112 Main Battle Tank

The ZTZ-112 is the newest Chinese MBT. A follow up on the ZTZ-99 design, the 112 incorporates new armor, gun, and electronic technologies. At the center of the new design is a Chinese 125mm electro-thermal gun. Unconfirmed reports indicate the new PLA ET Gun was developed with help from Israel defense contractors. Others say European firms participated. It is believed that the ZTP100 matches Western designs in performance.

New armor is incorporated as well. A redesigned ERA system covers the turret of the ZTZ-112. Based on European designs it also is believed to incorporate Russian KEW protection. The hull ERA is normal. Additional changes have reportedly been made to the tank’s armor. No one is sure if it is up to Chobham standards. Even if the armor is not up to Western standards, the electronics certainly are. Full digital communications and links truly enhance the ZTZ-112s abilities over the ZTZ-99. Next generation thermal sites and hardened battle cams on the hull provide excellent observation and some 112s are believed to have remote controls for their HMGs on the Tank Commander’s station.

As of now the 112 is only equipped with elite armored units of the PLA. Unlike other Chinese tank models, the 112 is not open for export.
