LSCA Mendez

A scifi landing ship of my design. A history is below.

The Mendez Assault Carrier is the cornerstone of Marine landing and aerospace operations. Each ship carries squadrons of Lighting IV attack craft and CLV-7 8 Hauler dropships. An entire MAU or its equivalent can be loaded into the LSCA (nearly 1800 Marines). Heavier lifting Mule Dropships are also on board to deliver Marine armor and IFVs to hot LZs. Typically LSCAs are committed after the navy has secured the space around a planet or other landing area. As a result the Mendez line of ships does not carry offensive firepower. They are equipped with multiple 120mm Railguns and Metal Slug CIWS systems and heavily armored.

A single Mendez LSCA participated in Operation Return, the putting down of the Tau Ceti rebellion. The EFS Iwo Jima landed the 52nd MAU and elements of the 2nd Marine Regiment on the planetoid Taurus. During the landing the Iwo came under attack by a pair of rebel frigates. Despite being hit by multiple KEW rounds and an anti-ship missile the carrier was still able to receive ships and move out of the combat zone. In forty-eight hours the Iwo Jima was back in-service landing more Marines.

There are currently thirty Mendez class LSCAs in the Interstellar Navy.
